Persephone’s Commitment…

My personal journey with food and within the cafe, has never been just about what’s on the plate—it is also about who gets to sit at the table.

I first fell in love with nutrition through my studies, where I began to understand the power of whole, thoughtfully prepared foods. At the time, I wasn’t living strictly gluten-free or within any one dietary label, but I quickly saw how meaningful it was to cook in a way that supported a wide range of needs. That perspective deepened when I began preparing fresh, nourishing foods for the Block Island Farmers Market—meals that were often gluten-free, plant-based, and crafted with intention.

What started as a passion slowly became a purpose.

Opening my café was a natural next step, but it came with a clear vision: to create a space where no one feels like an afterthought. A place where food sensitivities, allergies, and dietary choices are not just accommodated—but respected, understood, and carefully considered.

For many, eating out can feel uncertain, even stressful. We wanted to change that. Every ingredient we choose, every recipe we develop, and every process in our kitchen reflects a commitment to transparency, safety, and inclusivity. Whether someone is avoiding gluten, dairy, animal products, or other allergens, our goal is simple—to offer something they can trust and genuinely enjoy.

That mission became even more personal when my son was diagnosed with alpha-gal syndrome (a tick born allergy to mammal proteins). Navigating this condition opened my eyes in a deeper, more emotional way to the daily challenges families face when dealing with food allergies. It reinforced what I had always believed: that food is not just nourishment—it’s comfort, connection, and peace of mind.

At our café, we don’t take that lightly.

We continue to learn, adapt, and grow, always striving to create a welcoming environment where everyone—regardless of their dietary needs—can feel safe, included, and cared for. Because everyone deserves to eat with confidence, and to feel like they belong.
